Co-Founder, Managing Director
Wayne has spent his entire 22-year career in financial services. He has been an investment manager with ZEGA since its inception and is co-manager of each of ZEGA’s strategies. He specializes in risk-management strategies using options. Wayne is also the Chief Compliance Officer of ZEGA Financial.
ZEGA’s founding principles grew out of the book Wayne co-authored with Jay, entitled Buy and Hedge, the Five Iron Rules for Investing Over the Long Term.
Wayne spent 10 years in the online brokerage segment with TD Ameritrade. In addition to managing Business Development as a member of the Senior Operating Committee at Ameritrade, which included M&A and Market Research, he also ran Product Development. Prior to his tenure at Ameritrade, Wayne worked in planning & analysis roles at a Fortune 500 insurance firm and a Fortune 500 bank.
Wayne has an MBA in Finance from Loyola (Md.) and BSBA in Finance from Bucknell University. He resides in Ellicott City, Maryland with his wife and 3 daughters, and coaches youth sports.

Jay has been an investment manager at ZEGA since its inception and is actively involved in all of ZEGA’s investment strategies

Jay has over 20 years of experience in business management, with 12 years in the online brokerage field with TD Ameritrade and Datek Online. As the manager of the Active Trading business at TD Ameritrade, Jay helped drive it to become #1 in trade volume among U.S. brokers.
Jay has been a regular contributor on CNBC’s Fast Money, has provided video interviews for CNN, and is quoted regularly in publications such as The Wall Street Journal andSmart Money.
Jay resides in West Palm Beach, Florida with his wife and son.
Director Trading Research and Operations
As the product families at ZEGA grew, Mick joined the firm to tackle two roles. The first focuses on trading execution and support. The second examines, and helps to refine, investment strategies as they move from the incubation stage to broader distribution among clients.
Mick brings a product manager’s sensibility and methodology to his work, having performed this role most recently at Bank of the West and for a more extended run at TD Ameritrade. In his 15+ years at the online broker, he oversaw myriad changes in a rapidly growing industry. He helped build retail trading products, create educational programs, and develop the industry’s first JD Power-certified call center.
Mick graduated from the University of Nebraska and still calls Omaha home.
Derek manages ZEGA’s Registered Investment Advisor relationships, specializing in option strategies for income and protected growth. He helps advisors—and their retail clients—understand the calculus behind each strategy and how it best fits their investment goals.
Derek has over 21 years of experience as a trader and educator in options, futures, and technical analysis. As TD Ameritrade’s Director of National Education he crisscrossed the country sharing his knowledge of risk management and volatility. He also understands the challenges facingRegistered Investment Advisors, having previously managed his own book of clients. Derek started his financial career as a manager with Charles Schwab.
Derek is a full-on ironman triathlete in addition to running numerous marathons. He resides in Scottsdale, Arizona.
Jillian runs the show. Client service, performance reporting, and trading support are her primary areas of responsibility.
Jillian started her financial career in Luxembourg with BNY Mellon as a Senior Trust Accountant, adapting to a multi-lingual operation involving futures, FX, time deposits, and more. Returning stateside led to her increased responsibilities supervising client accounting and reporting. She became the client resource on trade settlements, valuations, financial statements, and accruals.
Jillian studied International Business at Merrimack College. She is also a huge Boston sports fan, but because she is such a team player, nobody really holds it against her.
Director of Sales
Richard joined the Zega team to help develop and manage client growth within the retail and institutional investment sectors. He has over 21 years of broad-based experience in management, sales, marketing and client service in the alternative and fixed income investment arenas. Throughout his career, his deep understanding of the needs of both clients and prospects has been the hallmark of his success.
Before joining Zega, Richard led business development for a minority owned institutional fixed income firm, a position he held for fourteen years. During that time, he raised over $6 billion in assets from plans across the institutional spectrum. Prior to that, Richard led the institutional marketing efforts of one of the first institutional hedge fund-of-funds firms providing liquid uncorrelated alternative investment strategies. Richard joined Zega because he strongly believes in Zega’s cutting edge approach in utilizing options to provide a solutions based approach that enables clients the best opportunity to meet and exceed their needs and objectives while also reducing aggregate portfolio risk.
Richard graduated Cum Laude from Oakland University Honors College in Michigan with a B.A. in Communications. He also serves on the Oakland University Honors College Advisory Board and is an active member with his church and a volunteer with JDRF, the leading diabetes foundation funding T1D research.
